Obituary

The Taylor Family is saddened to announce the sudden loss of Terry William (born Lee) Taylor, 79 years young. Terry passed away at his home beside his loving wife of 54 years, Maria, in Redwood City on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Terry was born on October 5, 1945 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and came to California when he was 3 years old with his parents, Ward and Iris Taylor, and his sister Judy. He lived the majority of his life in Redwood City and was the oldest of 8 children. He is survived by Maria, his wife of 54 years, 3 children and 7 grandchildren: Matthew and Nicole Taylor (Michael, Holly), Rachel Taylor (Tabitha, Jeff, Luke), and Natalie and Patrick DeOcampo (Leo, Rosa), many nieces and nephews, and cousins; and his siblings: Judy and Michael Gilmore, Bruce and Mary Taylor, Elise and John Phelan, Brad and (Debbie, deceased) Taylor, Susan and Curt German, Joseph and Laura Taylor, and Mary and Steve Finnegan.

Terry attended San Carlos High School. He was a devote Catholic like his parents and attended church every Sunday. It's not surprising Terry fell for Italian Catholic girl, Maria DiGrande. Several years after serving in the Navy for the Vietnam War on the carrier Bon Homme Richard, they were married on May 1, 1971.

Terry was very talented in many areas. He learned from his father that he could do or fix anything, which helped him in both professional and personal life. He was an avid classic car enthusiast, especially with Sunbeam Tigers. The Sunbeam Tiger club became like another family Terry belonged to, one that he also helped to grow and nurture. His determination and skill in car club events made a trophy room out of the shelves and walls of his office. Terry's enthusiasm and skills passed on to his children. Terry was well known and very well-liked by most anyone who knew him and was always willing to lend a hand to help and/or share his knowledge.

After losing Ward Taylor, the head of the Taylor family, Terry became the new patriarch. He was like his father in so many ways and family from sisters and brothers, down to their kids, valued and respected him. Terry enjoyed going to family events and hosting gatherings at his house. It really pleased him to not only see family and friends, but also when he saw them enjoy his pool that he worked to maintain, just like the rest of his beautiful yard. He would greet anyone with that warm smile, and instantly you felt welcomed.

In the last few months, Terry finally got his pretty, black, Sunbeam Tiger that he always wanted. He then proceeded to place so well at the yearly Tiger car event in several different categories, that he won the highest honor, the prestigious Lord Rootes award. Needless to say, Terry was very happy.

The family is heartbroken over the loss of Terry Taylor. He had so much more to do, knowledge to share, and love to give. We will sorely miss his physical presence, but forever in our hearts and memories, Terry remains here with us. Thank you for sharing your time with us. We love you.

We would like to put together a slide show for the reception with your help. We know no one probably takes more pictures than Maria, but please add to them and contribute your memories of Terry Taylor to twtaylor28racing@gmail.com . Pictures and videos may be shared directly by this link click here. It means a lot to us, thank you.
