Stuart Craig Johnson passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2022 surrounded by his
loved ones. He courageously battled cancer starting in 2000 and then again in 2022. He
received a stem cell transplant at Stanford in 2011 and was able to visit his donor Tim in
Germany. He remained positive throughout his battles.
Stuart was born on July 25, 1952 in Omaha, Nebraska to Richard and Georgia Johnson. He
grew up in Woodside, attended Woodside Elementary, Woodside High (where he met his future
wife, Sandy Brosnan), and then on to Menlo College. He took a break from school to play bass
in a rock & roll band. He worked in the grocery business at Brentwood Markets and returned to
Santa Clara University to receive his B.S. in Economics and his MBA. He graduated with Magna
Cum Laude distinction and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa from SCU. After working for
McKesson for several years, he started his own sign business, The Signworks, where he loved
the creative parts of designing and constructing signs. During his time at the Signworks he
became involved in Rotary of San Carlos, Chamber of Commerce and a business leads group.
Stuart was athletic, enjoying soccer, softball, tennis, and walking 7-10 miles a day. He
participated in Team in Training to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He also
coached and became a referee for his sons' soccer teams. Some of his hobbies were music,
whittling wood, travel, art, kayaking, gardening, and writing. His prized project was hand building
an 18' long wooden sea touring kayak.
Stuart was preceded in death by his father, Richard and his mother, Georgia. Stuart is survived
by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandy, their four children: Nate (Mieke), Danny (Elisa), Jeremy,
and Lia; four grandchildren: Natalie, Fiona, Teddy, and Lily; and his siblings: Boyd (Susie),
Diane (Tom) and Jamie. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His
family was a central part of his life that brought him much joy, love, pride, and laughter. He was
a good role model for all.
Stuart had a zest for life and enjoyed exploring his creativity. In addition to playing bass, he
created artwork and wrote many poems. He published three books of poetry, A Human
Becoming/Words w/ Melody, Being in Reverie & Prosody, and O3 Heavy Oxygen. He felt the
trauma in his life opened a door to his creative expression. Stuart also loved to travel and visited
London, Paris, Rome, Scotland, Germany, Spain, and much of the U.S.
Stuart faithfully attended Sequoia Christian Church for 45 years. He enjoyed playing bass on the
worship team. He was also involved in cooking soup and serving breakfast to the homeless
through a program called Street Life Ministries.
Stuart will be remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, determination, positive attitude, and
love for life. Our memories of Stuart will live on in our hearts forever.
