Sheila Mary
Dikun
September 16, 1929 – May 26, 2021
Sheila Mary Dikun
Menlo Park/Redwood City, CA – Sheila Mary Dikun, 91; passed away May 26th Tuesday morning, of natural causes following an extended period of declining health.
She leaves behind her sons Gerald and Donald; daughter-in-laws Martha and Jill; granddaughters Rebecca and Brianna; as well as grandsons Matthew, Timothy and Christian.
Sheila was born in London, England September 16th, 1929, and she was raised in Ireland where she primarily resided until she migrated to San Francisco, Ca with her brothers, sister and father. She was a longtime resident of Menlo Park and member of Nativity Parish. She came from very humble beginnings in Ireland, moved to San Francisco California where she eventually met Edward Dikun while both were employed at Mobil Oil in San Mateo, CA. She was drawn to Ed by his love of life and laughter, known to be the jokester at work, and inevitably felt strongly about him based upon how well he took care of his mother. They proudly married, and purchased a home in Menlo Park. As the moral compass, she raised a family with Ed and guided her two sons through college graduation and their eventual raising of families within the San Francisco Bay Area. Together, Sheila and Ed accomplished the "American Dream" of coming from very humble beginnings, only educated no further than high school, and setting the stage for her sons to exceed what they accomplished.
Sheila is remembered fondly as the guiding light of her family, including the never ending belief that family should always be together. She proudly was a homemaker and placed top priority on the care of her husband and family, oftentimes at her own sacrifice. She loved desserts and sweets beyond regular food, epitomizing the outlook of "life is short, eat dessert first." Sheila outwardly displayed a conservative personality if you didn't know her, yet shared a bright sense of humor with those that were fortunate enough to know here. She displayed a fierce determination to protect and provide for her family, and good luck to the obstacle that got in her way. She was a loyal and loving wife through thick and thin. She instilled in her sons to never settle for anything and expect more of yourself than others expect of you. She offered the undying warmth of love for her husband, her sons and their wives (as her own daughters that she wished she could have had) as well as her granddaughters and grandsons.
Sheila's life will be celebrated through a 6:00 pm closed casket rosary, Wednesday evening June 2nd at Crippen and Flynn Woodside Chapel of Redwood City, as well as at a 11am closed casket Funeral Mass, Thursday morning June 3rd at Nativity Church of Menlo Park. A private burial will be planned for a later date at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery of Menlo Park, where Edward already resides. A lunch and opportunity to reminisce will follow the funeral at Harry's Hofbrau, on El Camino Real, in Redwood City.
