July 25, 1977 – June 24, 2023
Santiago Escamilla Jr. 45, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2023, in Fremont, CA. He was born to Maria Figueroa in Rexburg, Idaho. He was the youngest of 3. Santiago liked to be called Junior.
Junior grew up in Redwood City, Ca but spent some time living in Stockton, Ca and in Washington state. Junior enjoyed sports, especially football and baseball. His favorite football teams were the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburg Steelers, although he could appreciate any good player from any team. He also knew a lot about old school cars, his favorite being a 1965 Chevy Impala SS.
Junior overcame a lot of obstacles and hardships throughout his life. He got clean in 2017 and began dialysis treatments 3x a week. In 2021 he and his girlfriend moved to Fremont, Ca to regain custody of their 12 year old son. Once in Fremont, he became a stay at home Dad and played an active role in his son's extracurricular activities like being assistant coach to the 10u and later 12u divisions in football. Junior very much enjoyed cheering on the kids when they played and always encouraged them. He took great pride in his son being the quarterback.
Junior was known for his sarcasm, frankness, loyalty and big heart. He loved to help people in need because of the struggles he had endured. He loved to make people laugh. He was well known and respected by many. Junior loved his family and cherished his long time friendships.
Despite Junior's health complications, he continued to live his life the best he could and made the best of it. He loved being a father and was a very supportive partner.
Junior leaves behind his partner and mother of his child Veronica Calderon, their 12 year old son, Santiago Ruben Escamilla; as well as his mom, Maria Figueroa, brother, Antonio Escamilla, and sister, Lulu Escamilla Pena; as well as other close family members. Junior will be greatly missed.
