Rosemary Guaitamacchi

Rosemary Guaitamacchi, painlessly and peacefully passed on Tuesday, August 18, in her sleep. She had been suffering from breast cancer that metastasized to her bones and is in a better, more peaceful place now. She led a rich and full life, reaching the age of 88 and is survived by her daughter, Sandra, and her two grandsons, Andy and Connor.

She will be missed but always remembered. Rosemary was an incredible and caring mother and grandmother. She always showed kindness to others, was open minded to new ideas, and felt family was most important. Her grandsons adored her and were so lucky to have known her as they grew up.

Rosemary was first generation Irish. She moved around as a child, but landed in Chicago, her favorite city. She cherished her Irish heritage and visited Ireland many times throughout her life. She met Mario, an Italian immigrant and the love of her life, in Chicago and spoke of how lucky she was to have met such a kind and special man. They moved to California where they raised their family and spent many vacations exploring California’s natural wonders. She also loved traveling to Italy, where she fell in love with the beauty and culture there.

Rosemary wanted us to celebrate her life rather than mourn her passing. In lieu of a funeral, the family will honor her privately.
