Reverend Jerome M. Murphy

Rev. Jerome Murphy, a priest of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, passed away on October 15, 2026, at the age of 73.

Fr. Murphy was born on March 8, 1953, in Wallace, Idaho, to the late Ronald Murphy and Eleanor Ebbley Murphy. He was raised in Atherton, California, alongside his brothers, Ronald and John Murphy.

Answering the call to the priesthood later in life, Fr. Murphy was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Francisco on May 19, 2012, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco. Archbishop George H. Niederauer ordained him to the priesthood.

Fr. Murphy faithfully served the Church and the people of the Archdiocese throughout his years of priestly ministry. Outside of his ministry, he had a particular interest in military history and enjoyed collecting and selling war memorabilia. He also enjoyed refurbishing vintage postcards, a pastime that reflected his appreciation for history and objects with a story to tell.

Fr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Eleanor Murphy. He is survived by his brothers, Ronald and John Murphy, as well as family, friends, brother priests, and the many people whose lives he touched through his ministry.

Friends are invited to attend a Rosary on Wednesday, November 4, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Sebastian’s Church, 373 Bon Air Road, Greenbrae, CA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 5, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park.

May Fr. Jerome Murphy rest in the peace of Christ, whom he faithfully served as a priest.
