Obituary

Praful R. Patel, 82 of Methuen, MA passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones in San Mateo, California. He was a devoted husband to Chanchal, his wife of 50 years, and a loving father to his children Masumi, Sarita, and Alan.

He immigrated from India in 1971 and worked as a civil / structural engineer for over 40 years. In pursuing the American Dream, his work ethic, punctuality, and ability to prioritize his family over himself defined who he was as a person. He took great pride in his work for the US Army at Natick Soldier Systems Center for the last 12 years of his career.

After retiring, Praful was able to slow down and spend time with his family, who were spread across the US. He cherished every moment spent with each of his six granddaughters, who affectionately called him "Bapuji". He spent his free time pursuing musical interests, drawing, and volunteering at cultural organizations that were dear to him including the Chinmaya Mission of Boston and the Indian Association of Merrimack Valley.

Praful was a laid-back force in a family of strong personalities. He spread positivity by singing, dancing, joking, and cooking. He enjoyed life and celebrated special moments by surprising his wife with flowers and making chocolate chip cookies and other treats for family, friends, and colleagues.

We will miss him singing along to Indian and American songs, dancing at parties, watching comedy movies, and enjoying long, slow meals with family and friends. He will be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and subtle smile.

Praful will be most missed for his kind-hearted nature and optimistic perspective on life. He chose to always see the best in people and approached every situation with a calm demeanor.

He is survived by his wife, Chanchal of Methuen, MA, daughter Masumi, son-in-law Nikesh, and granddaughters Nalini and Viyona; daughter Sarita, son-in-law Anup, and granddaughter Rashmi, and son Alan, daughter-in-law Payal, and granddaughters Kavya, Aashvi, and Saanvi, as well as many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family is currently together in San Mateo, California. A memorial service will be planned at a future time.
