Michael Arthur McClure 78 of Menlo Park, CA passed away on Sunday May 28th, 2023 surrounded by loved ones.
Born June 6, 1944 in DuBois, PA the eldest of three sons to George H. and Charlotte L. (Youmans) McClure.
On October 24th, 1962 Michael married his high school sweetheart Rose (Snyder) McClure. They had been married almost 61 years. Michael, Rose, and their daughter Natalie moved from Pennsylvania to California in 1973. The family has remained in the Bay Area since.
After retiring from the union glazing trade in the late 1990's, Michael became a custom knife maker. Having an interest in forging, he joined The American Bladesmith Society and earned his Journeyman status in 2002. Michael had a passion for designing his own knife styles and forging his own steel especially Damascus patterns. Michael's work has been featured in several knife publications throughout the years.
When not busy making knives, Michael loved exploring the outdoors, taking his family on camping trips, riding his Harley, and enjoying a cold Miller Genuine Draft. He spent his days with family, friends and family dog Gracie. Michael was a proud member of several knife clubs, the Juggers Racing Team, the NRA, and the Early Ford V-8 Club of America.
"Mike (as he was fondly called by family and friends) is survived by his wife Rose, daughter Natalie McMahon and her husband Russell McMahon of Woodside, CA. and granddaughter Autumn McMahon of Woodside, CA. Mike is also survived by family in Pennsylvania, sister-in-law Tara McClure, nephews Kyle and Chad McClure, niece Katelyn McClure, great nephew Liam McClure, great niece Ellie McClure and niece Tammy Nulph. Niece Paula Baun of Florida, along with numerous cousins.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Dennis Y. McClure, and George Stephen McClure.
Rest in peace Mike, you will be forever loved and missed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
