Mark Steven
Olson
August 26, 1969 – March 6, 2022
Since his diagnosis of stage four kidney disease, Mark's daily schedule was dictated by his evening and late night home dialysis, and early morning routine to catch the train to work while listening to KNBR radio. He enjoyed the water views from the Bay Trail around Genentech where he worked for 15 years. He was proud of the work his company did for their patients and his role as an essential worker during the COVID pandemic. He also enjoyed attending the infamous company concerts and movie screenings with a friend.
Mark appreciated the familiarity of his social activities. On Friday nights, Mark usually ate pepperoni pizza at Round Table where he and the owner shared the same birthday. Saturdays were spent in downtown Redwood City at the Farmer's Market, shopping at Kohl's, and catching a matinee movie. He enjoyed having dinner with friends on Saturday evenings and brunch on Sundays at Breakers where he would run into many St. Pius parishioners. Conversations with friends often included laughing at the ridiculousness of the world! Mark served faithfully as the Sacristan for the Sunday 5pm Mass at St. Pius, and participated in young adult social, faith enriching and service activities. Mark supported the parish youth mission trips by making hundreds of pancakes for their fundraisers.
Mark loved his family and friends. He loved Redwood City and the 4th of July Parade, the Bay Area and its sports teams, cooking—especially for family holiday gatherings, and he loved all things Disney! Mark loved going to the happiest place on earth. Now he has gone to the happiest place…in heaven, at rest in the company of our Savior, angels, saints, and family who have gone before him.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents David and Pamela Olson, and sister Maura Olson. Mark is survived by his siblings: Pete Olson, Katie Olson, Allen Kim (Esther Song), Barkley (Melanie) Flynn, and nieces and nephews: Daniel (Sarah), Derek, Victorienne (Eliot), Stephan (Eun Jin Cho), Jessica (Max), Sierra, Frankie, Little Barkley, and Emilia, and his biological aunts and uncle: Patty Dickerson, Carolee Lubin James Glassman and Richard Glassman, and many friends.
