Obituary

Maria was born and raised in Italy, first in Sestri Levante and then in Rho (near Milan), surviving fascism and experiencing WWII firsthand. Her early life and experiences had a huge influence on her later years and she understood how important it was to make the most of life and enjoy every moment. She was loved by all who knew her.

Maria came to the US in 1956, married and started her family. She quickly integrated into American life, however, never forgot her Italian roots, returning often to visit family and friends and teaching her children and grandchildren to experience and appreciate the rich history of the country of her birth.

She was a member of the Italian American Womens' Guild, and enjoyed going to club events like dinner dances, bingo games and social events. A glass of prosecco was never far from her hand at these events.

She was a devout Catholic and her deep faith was a driving force in her life. Her primary focus was on raising her family and being a support to her family, including her daughters-in-law, son-in-law and her numerous grandchildren. Once her children finished grammar school, she returned to work as an accountant and administrator in various businesses and organizations.

She is predeceased in death by her husband Raymond Carlo Serrato and survived by her sons John Peter Serrato (Marylouise), Albert Anthony Serrato (Claire) and daughter Catherine Marie Sarti (John) and grandchildren, Giancarlo Albert, Adriana Louise and Marco Enrico Serrato; Jessica Marie, Scott Anthony and Ryan James Serrato; and John Robert Sarti. She is also survived by her brother Giampiero Svevo of Monza, Italy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
