Obituary

María Valadez Bravo October 22, 1928 - April 19, 2021 Our beloved mother and friend passed away at home in Redwood City, CA on April 19, 2021 at 92 years of age after a heroic battle with cancer. She was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States as a young bride. She resided in Orange County, San Juan Capistrano until 2008. She then traveled north to the Bay Area and remained. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesús (Jesse) Bravo Jr., her daughter, Beatríz Bravo, her daughter in law, Paula Bravo, her son in law, Carlos Alcantar and her only granddaughter, Jessica Jade Bravo. She leaves behind two daughters, María Elena Bravo Casias (Paul), Lupe Alcantar (Carlos), son, Edward Bravo (Kelly), daughter in law, Donna De Angelis, grandsons Nicholas (Rose), Alex and Christian, and great grandson, Nathaniel (Nate) John Casias. Anyone who came into contact with María knew how much she loved to travel, be it a short distance to Chinatown, San Francisco, the local Dollar Trees, 31 Flavors or a longer distance to Monterey/Carmel, Hawaii, Virginia, or Mexico. She never met a food she did not like and she was especially enamored of shrimp in any form. Her tremendous appetite belied her little frame. She collected shoes and purses too numerous to count and always enjoyed a good mani and pedi. She loved to cook, sew and most importantly to care for those she loved, especially her children, spouse and grandchildren. When the cancer recurred and the dementia took serious hold, she was cared for lovingly and diligently by her daughter in law, Donna, her daughter, María Elena, and "an angel sent from heaven above," Beth. The last year of her life allowed María to acquire a new appreciation for Frank Sinatra and dancing to his music, all due to Beth. The family owes a debt of gratitude to Pathways (hospice/ SF Team) who provided palliative medical care and support to María and her caretakers. Without their ever present support, she would not have been able to remain at home until the end. Donations in lieu of flowers to : Pathways, 585 North Mary Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94085 "The greatest gift is to know that we travel not alone, but in the company of others---that there are hands to reach for and hearts to keep us warm." We love you and miss you, Mom/Nana.
