Margaret
Gearey
May 20, 1931 – December 13, 2024
MARGARET GEAREY. Margaret passed away at her home on December 13 aged 93. Margaret was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose vibrant spirit and love for life touched everyone around her.
The fourth of 10 children, Margaret had an adventurous spirit. She left home at 18 to begin her nurses' training in Glasgow, specializing in midwifery. In the late 1950's she immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to continue nursing where she met and married George T. Gearey. In 1964, they moved to San Francisco, California and in 1972 to Redwood City, California.
Margaret was a nurse at the Southern Pacific Hospital in San Francisco followed by Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City. All told, she was a RN for over 40 years.
Known for her sweet and welcoming disposition, Margaret will be remembered for her smile and "up for anything" spirit. Friends could call on her for virtually any activity and she would go. She touched many peoples' lives in the best possible way and her absence leaves a hole in many hearts.
Margaret's love of travel took her to Hong Kong, Peru, Chile, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa, the Caribbean to name just a few places. And, even more impressive is the fact that the African safaris and trip down the Amazon river took place in her 80's! All told she traveled to every continent except Antarctica.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband of 37 years, George Gearey. Margaret is survived by her two devoted daughters Maureen (spouse Michael Orphanos) and Zandra (spouse Bruce Johnson). Her four grandchildren Bryan, Casey, Lauren and Olivia feel her loss tremendously.
A celebration of Life will be held at Crippen & Flynn at 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont on Sunday, December 22 from 3-5. Reception will follow at Margaret's home in Redwood Shores.
