Juan (Johnny) Alcantar
8 de diciembre de 1976 – 28 de julio de 2022
Obituario

Juan (Johnny) Alcantar
December 8, 1976 – July 28, 2022
It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that the family Alcantar announces the passing of our dearly beloved Juan Alcantar.
Juan Alcantar (Johnny), also known by his family as John-John, blessed this earth with his beautiful spirit for 45 unforgettable years. Surrounded by his family, Juan passed away peacefully on July 28, 2022.
Juan, along with his twin, Guadalupe Alcantar, were born on December 8 th , 1976 to Refugio Navarrete Castañeda (Mother) and Ramon Alcantar Ayala (Father). Juan is survived by his 8 sisters, 2 brothers, and countless nephew, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
Juan, an artist, a musician, a bright light to this world, was born in Stanford, California. At birth, Juan was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The doctor told his parents that as a child with Down Syndrome, Juan would not live beyond the age of 15, would never be able to walk, and would not accomplish much. Juan, a force to be reckoned with, proved the doctor wrong.
Defying all odds, Juan graduated high school, won numerous awards (year after year) in the Special Olympics, was trilingual, taught himself how to play many instruments, was an accomplished artist and was a great dancer. No one could keep up with him on the dance floor.
Juan was raised in the Christian community and because of his passion for music, Juan became an unofficial band member of his church's worship group. Every Sunday, Juan would be seated in the front row, next to the stage, with a different instrument in hand, ready to worship the Lord. Juan loved to sing, dance, color, draw, and watch Peppa Pig. Juan had an extensive collection of Pokémon memorabilia and knew everything there was to know about Pokémon. Juan's favorite instruments included the guitar, bongos, accordion, and drums.
As with music, Juan always gave his all to life and to everything he did.
Juan was a special person whose friendly personality and beautiful contagious smile made everyone feel loved. Juan was a gentle, clever, silly, charismatic, empathetic, and amazing human who lived a happy life. His embrace made people feel protected, and his affection made people feel cared for. To have known Juan was to know love. Juan was love.
While Juan was blessed with a large and loving family, Juan was the true blessing to his family. He was the heartbeat. We will cherish the memories we have of him and the lessons he taught each of us about life including love, patience, to have faith, to always forgive and to always dance. Most importantly, Juan taught us how to make the most of life. Juan was very loved and left a special place in everyone's heart.
Juan's life ended before his loved ones were ready to say goodbye but the time he spent in our lives will forever be remembered. It is not often that life brings us someone as special as Juan. We feel fortunate to have been blessed with Juan in our lives. Juan will also be dearly missed by all of his friends, neighbors, coworkers, brothers and sisters in the church, and Pastor.
Juan loved life and encouraged others to do the same. We know Juan wouldn't want us to grieve alone in our sadness and that he would want us to hold our heads and hearts high and to celebrate his special life. Separate from the services, the Alcantar family will be hosting a memorial to celebrate Juan's wonderful life and the heart prints he left on all our hearts.
We hope you can join us to remember our Juan, our Johnny, our John-John.
