Obituary

Joni Luanne Gimnicher was born on October 19th, 1955 in Macomb, Illinois to Omar
Dean and Betty Louella Mumey. Joni passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 6th,
2026 at the age of 70 leaving her family and all who knew her in profound shock and
sorrow.

Joni grew up in a small town in Illinois, starting her career as an x-ray technician in
Reno, Nevada, and later moving to California where she spent most of her career at
Lucky Chances Casino in Colma. She formed many lasting friendships and was known
for her warmth, dedication, and hard work.

Joni had a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and cared for. She deeply valued
her friends and family, loved cooking, gifting, socializing over wine, fine dining,
collecting gnomes, and traveling. No one ever went hungry when Joni was involved.

Joni was preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Susi, her parents, and her ex-
husband Jimmy, the father of her children. She is survived by her husband Steve; her
children Kayla and Marco; her step-children Jennifer and Daniel; her grandchildren
Benjamin, Zoey, and Riley; her sister Marti; and numerous loving nieces, nephews,
extended family, and friends.

Joni will be remembered for her enormous heart, strength, kindness, and generosity. Her
passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those
who loved and knew her.
