Obituary

John Cattermole was born on December 3, 1923, to John and Louise Cattermole. He was raised in San Francisco, a city he held close to his heart. He attended Lowell High School and the University of San Francisco where he completed his degree after answering the call to serve his country.
John joined the Merchant Marines and attended Kings Point Academy, where he trained as an engineer. He was very proud of his service and would talk non-stop about his adventures in the South Pacific During WWII. After leaving the Merchant Marines in 1945, John was drafted in 1948 to serve another tour as an engineer in the United States Navy.
In 1954, John married the love of his life, Gertrude "Trudy" McShane. Their marriage of 54 years was a true partnership filled with love and friendship until Trudy's passing in 2008. Together, they raised three children: Greg, Jay, and Nani.
John spent many years working alongside his father at Allied Grocers and later worked at Fleming Foods and United Grocers. He last worked at Becton Dickinson in pharmaceutical sales.
Trudy and John loved making friends and gathered often with them at their favorite restaurant, Luttiken's, where they lunched almost every day. After Trudy's passing, he continued this tradition, forming deep bonds with many who became like family. Those friendships live on today through the "Tuesday Lunch Bunch," who still gather at Luttiken's.
John is survived by his sister, Marie McGinnis, his son Greg Cattermole (Joan) and their three sons: Kyle (Alexis), Drew (Beth), and Mikey (Caity); by his daughter-in-law Mimi Cattermole, wife of his late son Jay, and their two daughters: Emily and Abby; and by his daughter Nani Daniels (Chal) and their five children: Christina Blomdal (Dave), Chase, Taylor, Tovae Benjamin (Rob), and Cael. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Molly, Finley, Sydney, Elly, James, and Carter.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and Charles Bagnatori.
John will be remembered for his devotion to family, his lifelong friendships and his quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched-one story, one friendship, and one shared meal.
