Obituary

Joanna Carmela Ambrosio, 72 years old, lived in San Carlos, California until she passed away on March 22, 2022, surrounded by her family. Joanna, daughter of Theodore Giacomo Ambrosio and Josephine Carmen Ambrosio, was the eldest of seven children. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Kaiser, their children, Michael and Michelle, her sisters and brothers, niece and nephews. Joanna was born in Long Beach, California. As a young girl in Southern California, she helped with regular chores on the family farm and attended high school at Saint Francis de Sales, where she graduated Salutatorian of her class. After graduation, Joanna attended UC Riverside, where she studied mathematics and linguistics and worked multiple jobs to finance her education. Three years into her college education she transferred to San Bernardino to study Business, where she graduated in the Spring of 1973 with a degree in Accounting. Her corporate career then began at Montgomery Wards, where she worked for seven years and became the first female internal auditor at the Company. As an auditor, she traveled 100% of the time, going from store to store. Seeking a new opportunity with more stability, she worked at Arthur Anderson & Co. as an auditor and was one of three female auditors out of 350 auditors in the San Francisco office. While at Arthur Anderson, she was asked to be captain of the Arthur Anderson tennis team, where she met her future husband, Jeffrey Kaiser. He, along with his roommate, had initiated a tennis league at the San Francisco Tennis Club consisting of thirteen teams comprised of members of the Big Eight accounting firms and the five largest San Francisco law firms. She spent three years at Arthur Anderson before moving to the KoraCorp Industries Finance team. After KoraCorp was purchased by Levi Strauss, Joanna moved to Oral-B Laboratories where she eventually became the Corporate Treasurer until her retirement in 1997. Always generous with her time, she became involved in local Bay Area activities, including serving on the Finance Committee and Board of Directors of Notre Dame High School (Belmont), being a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way Bay Area, preparing tax returns for AARP, as well as various ministries and committees at St Charles Catholic Church. After Jeffrey retired, they purchased a second home in La Quinta, California, spending 6 months a year there. As members of PGA WEST, a private golf community in the Palm Springs area, Joanna learned to play golf and became very active in the golf community. She became President of the Par Tee Group as well as a member of the Members Advisory Board of Governors of PGA WEST. All during her adult life, she loved to travel, particularly internationally, travelling to five different continents as well as annual trips to Maui with her family. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Church on Saturday, April 9, at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to UCSF Foundation, P.O.
