Joann Marie
Ramorino
March 26, 1932 – November 26, 2023
Joann Ramorino was born in Ogden, Utah on March 26, 1932 to Italian immigrants,
Thresa M. (Borgogno) and Oreste S. Ropelato. She and her sister Emma spent their
childhood growing up in small, rural towns as their father worked on the Southern Pacific
Railroad lines through northern Nevada and Utah, eventually settling back in Ogden,
Utah where many of her family still live today.
At the age of 18, Joann knew she wanted more out of the world, and she moved by
herself to San Francisco to stay with her beloved Aunt Ruby, her mother's sister. She
worked in retail in San Francisco as a buyer for the iconic Macy's department store in
Union Square. She carried her love of fashion through her whole life, always dressing
classy and in-style, even into her 90s.
Shortly after arriving in San Francisco, she met the love of her life, Charles Bernard
Ramorino when she pulled into his gas station he owned. They eventually wed on
October 8, 1955 and bought their first home together in Millbrae, CA. The next year,
they welcomed their first son, Robert B. Ramorino, followed by their second son Richard
C. Ramorino in 1958.
In the mid-60s, Charlie and Joann bought a piece of property down the Peninsula and
built a ranch house, which would be their home for the next several decades together.
Over time, they added a pool, koi ponds, and beautiful gardens that they would enjoy
working in together and hosting family summer pool parties and barbeques at.
Over all the years, Joann and Charlie loved to travel with their friends to Italy, Carmel,
and Coronado. They spent many nights dancing away together at the Italian Boys Club
and any social event they were at. She was a most wonderful Moni to her daughters-in-
law, granddaughters and great-grandchildren, whom she enjoyed many shopping trips
with and eating ice cream treats with. Most of all, she and Charlie loved spending time
with their family, which grew over the years to include two daughters-in-law, five
granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren.
Joann will be dearly missed by all and is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law,
Robert and Carolyn Ramorino and Richard and Jacqui Ramorino; her five
granddaughters Christina (Dominic) DeLuca, Karen Ramorino, Jackie (Aaron)
Bogdanoff, Teresa Ramorino, and Carina Ramorino; her five great-grandchildren Gianna,
Sofia, and Makayla DeLuca and Rickey and Caroline Bogdanoff, and many nieces and
nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Ramorino, her parents,
Thresa M. (Borgogno) and Oreste S. Ropelato, her sister, Emma Walling, and her
nephew, Dean Walling.
