James Edward Hummel left this life for a better one in the light of our Lord on Tuesday at the age of 89, under the vigilant watch of the Angels at the Menlo Park V.A. Hospital. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran of the Navy, a storied and accomplished artist (Stars and Stripes, Associated Press, San Jose Mercury News) a loyal husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather, a beloved teacher (San Jose State University), and an unabashed rapscallion. He is proceeded in death by his parents Harry and Louise, siblings Harry and Louisa Mae, his son James Jr. and nephews Eric and Bobby. He is survived by his wife Haruko, daughter Kathryn with her husband Peter and daughters Morgan and Parker, his son Scott with grandchildren Jennifer, Christian, Celena and Justin, and by nieces and nephews Mayumi, Janet, Cheryl, Billy, Sherran, Danny, Cynthia, Masahiko, Keiko, Yoko and Susan (not to mention all the great - nephews, nieces and grandkids).
