Obituary

Helen Wong (nee Fong) passed away at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City at the age of 97 after a brief illness. Born in Sacramento, Helen moved to Los Angeles as a small child and spent most of her life there, graduating in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in business administration from UCLA, where she was a champion bowler. In 1955 Helen married her husband, Stanley Grant Wong, a WWII combat veteran who passed away in 1984. She was a devoted homemaker, a loving mother, a great cook, and a gardener with a green thumb. She enjoyed travel, and visited much of the Western U.S. and Western Europe. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Yee Shee Fong, and her five brothers, Art, Ben, Sam, James, and Tom, whom she loved dearly along with their families. Helen is survived by her sister-in-law and cherished friend Bonnie Fong, her two sons Gary (Lynne) and Alan (Linnea), and her much-loved granddaughter Sophie. In 2017 Helen moved to the Bay Area to live at Atria Senior Living in San Mateo, one exit from Alan, Linnea and Sophie. In her final days, Helen regretted not being able to say a proper goodbye to her many friends among the staff and residents at Atria, but it is hoped that they now know they were loved by and will be missed by her. A kid at heart even at 97, Helen will be missed for her sharp sense of humor and feisty approach toward life. Near the end of life, Helen was attended to by Father Samuel Musiimenta of St. Charles Parish. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Southern California.
