Obituary

H. F. Wentholt (Frank), of Belmont, died suddenly at his home on September 25, 2024. He departed without fanfare, sentimentality, or fuss. He went the only acceptable way for himself, quickly.

Frank was born in Manila, Philippines on April 5, 1941. He attended the Putney School (1959), Yale University (1963), and Hastings School of Law (1970). For many years he worked as a lawyer at his Redwood City based law firm (Wilhelm, Thompson, Wentholt, and Gibbs) and his specialty was family law. He was proud also to have served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  At heart, he was a sailor and spent his most cherished times sailing not only the San Francisco bay but around the world in his own boat and charters.  He loved to travel and reflected back often on his adventures throughout the world.

Frank is survived by his long-time partner, Suzanne Fouts (San Mateo), his sister, Vivien Ingersoll and her husband, James (Clearwater, FL), his loving daughters, Christine Quinn and her husband, Timothy (San Carlos), Nicola Wentholt and her husband, Michael Robinson (Schriesheim, Germany), his grandchildren, Charles, Bradley, Nora and Hendrik, much loved nephews, cousins, and countless good friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Dolph and Carina Wentholt.

Frank could find humor in almost any situation and loved to laugh both with others, as well as at himself. He was a voracious reader and had a keen intellect. Throughout his life he cultivated many great friendships and delighted in good company and lively discussion.  He was a member of various social and philanthropic clubs and groups.  He always supported the Peninsular Humane Society as animals were usually the best company.
