Guy Bolich, Sr., passed away on September 22, 2026, after a short illness. He was 78 years old.
Guy grew up in San Carlos, California. As a boy he was an enthusiastic fan of Davy Crockett, Zorro, and the 300 Spartans. He attended White Oaks Elementary School and Central Middle School before graduating from San Carlos High School in 1967.
In 1968 he joined the Naval Reserve and, after 18 months, went on active duty. When his father became seriously ill and his first son was born, he received an honorable discharge on grounds of family hardship.
From his teenage years in the mid-1960s onward, Guy had a lifelong love of cars. He once described a dream in which all the favorite cars he had owned were gathered together in a warehouse so he could enjoy them again. Among them were a light-yellow 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air, a red 1963 Pontiac LeMans convertible with a white top and white interior, a black 1966 Pontiac GTO convertible with a white top, a light-yellow 1969 Chevrolet Corvette powered by a 427 big-block engine, and, late in life, a red 2023 C8 Chevrolet Corvette.
As a young man he worked for his father, Bill Bolich, at the family Texaco station at James and El Camino Real in Redwood City, and he also worked at other gas stations. In 1972 he began a career with San Mateo County as a custodian, a position his father helped him obtain. Shortly afterward his father passed away. Over the years Guy advanced to custodial supervisor—first on a probationary basis and later permanently. He took genuine satisfaction in the work, writing reports, ordering supplies, and traveling in a county truck to check on crews at multiple locations.
He left the county in 1994 and held various handyman jobs before joining his son at Safeway in the liquor department. After seven years there he moved to Home Depot, where he worked in the Electrical Department until his retirement in 2011. In retirement he enjoyed keeping up the house and sweeping the leaves along the block.
Guy is survived by his two sons, Guy Jr. and Richard, and by his two young grandchildren, Destiny and Daniel Bolich, whom he loved dearly. He often went to the park with the family to watch the children play.
He will be deeply missed, and he lives on in our hearts. God bless.
