George Clemence Quinn, Jr, a 55-year resident of Portola Valley, passed away peacefully after a short illness on December 23 at 99 years of age. He was born on June 10, 1922 in San Francisco to George and Hilda Quinn. George attended Mission High School and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. He served as a commissioned naval officer in the South Pacific during World War II, and again during the Korean war. While stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1952, he met his future wife Mary Conrad. They were married in Cincinnati, OH on July 25 1953 and made their first home in Redwood City, before moving to Portola Valley in 1966.
George was co-founder and owner of Pulsepower Systems, Inc. in San Carlos. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Wayside parish in Portola Valley and traveled extensively throughout the United States and overseas. He enjoyed vacations in Hawaii and summers at Lake Tahoe, and for many years attended annual reunions of his World War II shipmates around the country. George and Mary's home in Portola Valley was always a gathering place for extended family and friends, and the site of many memorable parties and holiday celebrations.
George is survived by 4 sons, Dennis (Kathy) of Post Falls, ID, Tom of Indianapolis, IN, Kevin of Granite Bay, CA and Terry of Folsom, CA. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Kacey, Colin and Rose Quinn, a sister, Muriel Wright and numerous other extended family members and friends. George was proceeded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary M. Quinn, his parents, and brother Howard V Quinn.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, January 4 at Crippin & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Road, Redwood City, with the recitation of the rosary offered at 6:00 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 5 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 501 Portola Road, Portola Valley, followed by a graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Memorial contributions in George's name may be made to St Vincent de Paul Society or to a favorite charity.
