Obituary

Gary Francis Griffin passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on February 27, 2025, at the age of eighty-six. He was born in San Francisco on April 2, 1938, to loving parents Frank and Ethel. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1956 where he was well known as "Moose" by his football teammates.
On October 17, 1959, Gary married Carol Kelly, the love of his life. Their union was blessed with nine children, and Gary was a devoted father and husband who took immense pride in his family.
Gary worked for thirty-five years with the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Mateo Times newspapers. After his retirement he worked during tax season at H&R Block. He was also a long-time member of the San Mateo Elks Club, where he formed lasting friendships.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Gary loved watching the San Francisco Giants, 49ers, and Warriors.
Gary is predeceased by his sons David (1976) and John (2022). He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol, and his children Gary (Jane), Kelly (Carlos), Tom (Jenifer), Lani, Kristen (Don), Paul, Steve, and Kendal. His memory is also cherished by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his sister Gail (John), and his brother Joe.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross . Before his illness he was a regular blood donor with American Red Cross and during his illness he was a recipient of blood on several occasions.
Gary Francis Griffin's life was marked by love, dedication, and an enduring spirit. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
