Our dear mother, Frances Jane Nigro, of Redwood City, passed away on July 15, 2023, in Sunnyvale, CA, at the age of 78. She was born in San Francisco, CA, on August 17, 1944, to John Firpo and Virginia Zermani. Frances is survived by her son Arthur ("T") Nigro (Patricia) and daughter Antoinette Wilson (John) and was "Nonnie" to four grandchildren: Thomas, Isabella, Emily, and Ryan and sister to Ray Firpo (Olie), Denise Zermani, and Rick Zermani (Dawn).
Frances ("Firpo") graduated in 1962 from Sequoia High School in Redwood City. She was a dedicated employee of the Redwood City School District for over 30 years. Her interests were vast, and included playing softball, volleyball, coaching kids' basketball and softball, league bowling, gardening, acting in local school district plays, and she was a devoted SF Giants and 49er fan, attending home games on a regular basis. In retirement, she developed a love for all things New York City (except their sports teams!).
But first and foremost, Fran was devoted to her family. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them camping, traveling, and cheering them on at their baseball, basketball, and soccer games, and rooting for them at their swimming and taekwondo tournaments. They will always remember her for playing games with them by a campsite fire, baking them her famous assortment of Christmas cookies, and for just being the best, most loving Nonnie they could ever have. She will be greatly missed by them and all her family. She is forever in their hearts.
Services were held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Pius Church, 1100 Woodside Road, Redwood City, CA. Interment will follow at the Italian Cemetery, Colma, CA.
