Carole Jean
Gianuario
June 25, 1936 – June 13, 2024
Carole Jean (Rossi) Gianuario was born on June 25, 1936, to parents Anthony Rossi Sr. (World War II Army Veteran, artist and sign painter) and Lucy Caruso Rossi (Homemaker) in Akron, Ohio and passed away June 13, 2024, in San Carlos, California at the age of 87 years. Carole possessed a vivacious personality; she was quick to share her beautiful smile and infectious laugh with anyone she met. She had a positive mental attitude and a magnetic quality that could light up any room. Carole was truly a joy to be around, worked until a job was done, and was always the first person called to help in a crisis. Carole was the rock of her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carole's grandparents immigrated from Abruzzo, Italy to New York and eventually settled in Akron, Ohio. Her family moved to Redwood City, California when she was 10 years old. Carole then attended and graduated from Mt. Carmel Catholic School and Sequoia High School. Carole possessed a beautiful voice, excelling in singing. During her time in high school, Carole participated in the Treble Clef, Varieties, and Operetta groups, as well as the Finance Board, among others.
After high school, Carole was asked to become a founding member of the West Bay Opera Association, under the direction of one of her favorite teachers, Mr. Henry Holt. She went on to sing leading roles in such operas as Die Fledermaus, Rigoletto, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Telephone and the Medium. Carole left West Bay Opera after a few years to get married and raise a family. Carole's love of singing continued throughout her life, sharing her gifts at every opportunity. Through example, Carole fostered a love of singing in her own children and grandchildren. Carole often performed at various church and community functions.
Carole developed an interest in finance during high school. During her working years she became a talented bookkeeper, salesperson, and manager in retail sales. Carole was able to parlay her personality, financial, and sales acumen to support her family's real estate ventures and various businesses, including Aragon Liquors, 1220 El Camino Real, San Mateo California. As a dedicated Roman Catholic her entire life, Caroled attended church regularly (especially St. Charles Church, San Carlos, California), and led church-related functions and groups such as the Carlosians Club. Carole delighted in volunteering in her children's classrooms at St. Charles Catholic School, often sharing her love of singing with the students. Carole also organized and led the Carolettes (later called the Sunrise Singers), which was a group of young adult singers that performed at church services and for various community functions. Later in her life, Carole became a Eucharistic Minister, administering communion and providing spiritual support to residents of local nursing care facilities. Carole was very proud of her Italian heritage, actively participating in the Italian Catholic Federation, often asked to take on leadership roles. Carole was very loved and well known in the San Carlos community, even attempting a run for a seat on the city council.
Some of Carole's many hobbies included sewing (she made clothes for herself and her family, as well as doll clothes to sell at her booth at local fairs, and made quilts and layette sets - donating them to Catholic Charities), and sports - especially football and baseball, routing for local high schools especially Sequoia, Woodside, and Carlmont as well as National teams: Ohio State, SF Giants, Forty-Niners, Raiders, and Cleveland Browns. Carole and Bob also traveled internationally and across America in their 5th wheel trailer.
Carole married Robert "Bob" Pasquale Gianuario on April 12, 1958; Bob worked as a salesman and business owner in the liquor trade. Carole and Bob had four children. Carole predeceased Bob, leaving behind Catherine (Gianuario) McCoy (Karstyn McCoy), Robert "Bob" Mark Gianuario (Karen), Cheryl (aka Francesca) Gianuario, and Richard Gianuario (Chris), and 9 grandchildren, Elijha Gianuario (Cheryl/Francesca), Ryan McCoy (Catherine), Richard and Rachel Gianuario (Robert), Nicholas, Nathan and Nathalia Gianuario (Richard), as well as Sarah and Aaron Stanley (children of Eric and Samira Stanley - close family friends). Carole is survived by her sister, Lucille Fox, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents Anthony Angelo Rossi Sr. and Lucy Ellena Caruso Rossi, and her brother, Anthony Angelo Rossi Jr. "Tony".
Special thanks to Regina and caregivers Rommel, Dennis, Louie, Julius and Vincent of Mom and Dad's Home Care who assisted Bob and the rest of the Gianuario family to loving and thoughtfully care for Carole over the last 6 years as she battled with Dementia.
