Betty Ann
Martin
June 26, 1932 – May 14, 2024
Betty Ann Martin (Haster) passed peacefully on May 14, 2024 at her home in Belmont, California. Betty was born and raised in San Francisco. She attended Notre Dame des Victoires (NDV) and San Francisco College for Women (Lone Mountain) where she obtained her teaching credential. Betty taught for over thirty years in the San Francisco Unified School District, primarily at Lakeshore Elementary School. It was at Lakeshore where she met some of her dearest friends and her husband of 55 years, Cliff Martin.
After retirement, Betty volunteered tirelessly. She devoted her time and talent to Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, took leadership roles for the AAUW and gave selflessly to many causes. Because of her devotion and closeness to her brother, Brother John Haster SM (deceased 2017), Betty was engaged and supportive of the Marianist Community of Cupertino, CA.
Betty was kind, compassionate and intelligent. She was an avid reader, a seasoned traveler, a favorite place being the Russian River, and an enthusiastic nightly Jeopardy winner.
Betty loved her family and friends. She was the devoted mother of Annie (James), Betty (Tony), Kathy (deceased 1998), Jim (Joanne) and Jack (Becky). Loving Aunt to niece Michelle (Joe) and nephew Robby (Chrissy). Betty delighted in her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and grand nieces and nephews. Children sparked her laughter and smiles.
Betty is survived by her loving sister, Carole, Brother-in-law Mike, and husband Cliff. Special thank you to Suli her devoted caregiver.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Belmont, CA. Viewing and prayers at 10:30am followed by a Mass at 11:00am. Reception will follow at St. Michael's Hall, IHM.
