Beth Song-Hwa Wang died on August 11, 2021 of cancer at age 85 in Redwood City, California. She was born in 1936 in Taipei, Taiwan, the daughter of a sawmill owner. She went to Taipei First Girls High School, then studied chemistry at National Taiwan University, earning both a bachelor's and master's degree. After graduation, she worked for the US Navy Medical Research Unit in Taipei. She came to the United States in the early 1960s to obtain another master's degree in chemistry, initially at Baylor University and later at the University of California at Davis. While at Davis, she met her future husband Su Sun Wang, who was then studying at Berkeley. They were married in 1964. She raised two children as a housewife after the couple moved to New York in 1968, and later in New Jersey. She became a US citizen in 1977 and the family moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1979. She later went back to work in the mid-1980s as a chemist at Alpha 1 Biomedical in Foster City, and retired in 1994. She is survived by her son Albert, and her two sisters and brother.
