Obituary

Barbara Locatelli – Resident of San Carlos
Surrounded by family and friends with hearts full of love, Barbara Louise Locatelli, 76, passed away peacefully after a short illness on September 24, 2022. She was born on October 30, 1945, in Palo Alto to Thelma and George Locatelli. She was a fourth-generation member of the Locatelli and Byrd families, both long time Redwood City families. A large part of Barbara's childhood time was spent with her parents and sister Linda at the family cabin in Loma Mar before it was sold to expand Memorial Park. To this day, Memorial Park has remained a cherished place for the family and was the site of many birthday parties, Father's Day picnics, and camping vacations.
Barbara graduated from Sequoia High School in 1963, and from the University of California with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Science in 1967. After graduation she attended CSUSF for additional course work to become a Medical Technologist. After her training at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco she began working at Mills-Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame where she met her "oldest" friend Nancy and then her partner in crime, Liz. The numerous friendships she made during her time at Mills-Peninsula continued throughout the years and involved many trips to Lake of the Pines, countless parties, and endless laughs. After working in the lab, she became Supervisor of Nuclear Medicine and remained there until she retired after a career of 45 years at the hospital. Throughout her journey, Barbara made many life-long friends, including those from high school and college.
Barbara was a devoted mother to her daughter Andrea and remained close throughout her life with Mike, her first husband and Andrea's father. They were such good friends that Andrea didn't realize until much later in life that most divorced people weren't best friends and did not vacation together as a family. Throughout her life, Barbara dedicated herself to her family and always put the needs of others first. She was the cornerstone of her family's life and was the best friend of not only her daughter but her granddaughters Sumaiya and Sara.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Thelma and George Locatelli, and her ex-husband Michael Mardesich. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Guizani (Farid), her granddaughters Sumaiya and Sara, her sister Linda Lion (Gordon), numerous extended family members, and countless friends.
Barbara's impact on those around her was never more evident than when she became ill and her friends, neighbors, and other loved ones dropped everything to support her throughout her medical journey. Her absence is a tremendous loss, but we are grateful for her love and know that her impact on our lives will never fade.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 4, 2022 at 11:30 am at the Adult Community Center in San Carlos. For more information, please visit:
