Barbara Bledsoe, a fourth-generation San Franciscan, passed away on October 12, 2026 at her home in San Carlos. Even at 92, Barbara lived every day to the fullest, embracing life with enthusiasm, humor, and an unwavering love of family and friends. Her remarkable zest for life was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Barbara earned her teaching degree at San Francisco State, and went on to teach at Barrett School in Belmont, California. After college, she married her high school sweetheart, Bob Bledsoe, and they raised three children: Bill, Carol, and Joyce.
The family settled in San Carlos, where Barbara and Bob were deeply involved in their community. Barbara was active in the PTAs, San Carlans and Eastern Star. Together, she and Bob participated in the Chicken’s Ball and volunteered and served on the Board at the Museum of San Carlos History. In recognition of their contributions, they were honored as San Carlos Citizens of the Year in 2014.
Barbara believed that no month should pass without a reason to celebrate. Every holiday was an occasion, every gathering an opportunity to bring people together, and every friendship something to treasure. She maintained lifelong friendships, regularly meeting friends for lunch and enjoying the traditions that made life special. She enjoyed occasional afternoon teas, and loved introducing new people, especially children, to The Nutcracker. Her family joked, “Keep your kids safe, or Barbara will take them to The Nutcracker!” A devoted San Francisco Giants fan, she rarely missed a game on television and attended whenever she could, including just a month before her passing.
Above all, Barbara loved sharing life's experiences with the people around her. Whether gathered around a holiday table or picnic table, enjoying an afternoon out or raising a glass with friends, she understood that life's greatest pleasures were the moments spent with those we hold dear. Fridays belonged to Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company, where she was a beer club member for more than ten years. Her regular table brought together faithful friends, while the owners, staff, and fellow beer lovers became an extended family. She also made second homes of favorite restaurants—including the Buena Vista, Iron Gate, Scoma’s, and Sundance—where everyone knew her name.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her children, Bill, Carol, and Joyce; extended family, Rob, John, Lynell, Devon, Matt, Xyon, Alaire, and Amelia; and the many dear friends and family who were fortunate enough to share in her extraordinary life.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Road, Redwood City. A celebration of life will follow at Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company, 990 Varian Street, San Carlos.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a glass, gather the people you love, and celebrate in her honor.
