Obituary

Afagh "Affie" Panahi Pedarsani, a devoted mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on March 6, 1944, Affie leaves behind a legacy of warmth, infectious joy, and an unmistakable elegance that brightened the lives of all who knew her.

Affie was born and raised in Iran, where she first developed her strong devotion to family. Her global perspective began early, as she spent several years living in London during her teens, an experience that contributed to her cosmopolitan nature and her ease with different cultures.
Her life was further defined by her ability to connect with people from all walks of life, facilitated by her remarkable multilingual fluency in four languages: English, French, Farsi, and Turkish. In the early 1970s, she courageously moved to the United States to raise her daughters, an act that defined her commitment and sacrifice as a mother.

While she worked professionally throughout her life, her true passions lay in family, travel, and generosity.
A natural athlete, she played tennis most of her adult life. She was also celebrated for her gracious hosting skills, where she delighted in preparing delicious Persian dishes for close friends and family-gatherings that were always illuminated by her infamous, genuine smile and tasteful disposition. Her world travels included frequent, cherished visits to Paris, New York City, Johannesburg, South Africa, and Columbia, South Carolina to spend time with loved ones.

Affie had an innate desire to give back. Upon retiring from her professional career, she dedicated her time to volunteering at Harvest Hope Food Bank, naturally gravitating toward those who needed support the most.
Above all, she was a devoted family matriarch. After living in many places across the world, she ultimately settled in San Carlos, California, living with her beloved daughter and son-in-law.

Afagh is preceded in death by her parents, Alieh Hakimi and Youssef Panahi, and her younger sister, Jaleh Regnier.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Sarah Panahi and Shari Pace, and her four cherished grandchildren: Cyrus Panahi, Tara Panahi, Maxmillian Pace, and Sophia Pace. She also leaves behind two close and devoted sisters, Farideh Knox and Leyla Mason, and a host of extended family and friends who felt the impact of her beautiful spirit.
A celebration of Affie's remarkable life will be held for close family and friends on January 17, 2026.
