Adele Sanchez Obituary In Redwood City, California, December 6, 2024. Earth lost an angel today and heaven just gained one when Adele Sanchez died at the age of 97. Her loving family, along with her amazing caregiver, Christina, were with her constantly during her final days and she died in the home that she shared with her late husband, Tony, since 1951.

Adele was born in Daly City to Adelina and Antonio D'Elia, originally from Ovindoli, Italy. The youngest of three children, she was predeceased by her sister Marie and brother Pete. She grew up in Redwood City, working as a teen usherette at the Fox Theater on Broadway and then going for a milkshake at the nearby malt shop. She was a proud graduate of Sequoia High School, Class of 1945.

In 1946 Adele married her forever sweetheart Tony Sanchez and quickly became a part of his family as she was considered a "sister" to his three now deceased sisters, Trini, Carmelita and Mary Lou. Adele leaves behind four children and their spouses, Mike (Nancy) Sanchez, Jimmy (Auy) Sanchez, Cindy (Greg) Hensel and Patty (Kyle) Hagen. She is survived by seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She has one great grandchild in heaven. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to list here but equally cherished in her life.

Adele's household was one of love, laughter and delicious Italian food. Everyone was welcomed and no one entered without being offered a tasty meal. She loved visitors, especially her children and grands. Pool parties have always been a summer highlight at her home and even during her last summer she delighted in watching the children swim and play.

Adele was an active member of the St Pius Church community where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She was fondly known by many parishioners. She had been president of the St. Pius Women's Club and she lovingly directed the St Pius Seniors for over 35 years. Adele called participants "my seniors" and planned their activities with joy and care. They were her friends.

There are no words to truly describe the nature of Adele's soul. Adele Sanchez loved and accepted everyone, without reservation. She deeply cared about all people, worrying about them and praying for them. She offered a listening ear and sound advice along with a plate of pasta. Joy and laughter lived close to her beautiful smile. If you knew her, you loved her and she loved you back. The world is just not as warm without her.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Pius Church in Redwood City on Tuesday, December 17 at 10am, followed by a reception in Fitzsimmons Center. Burial will be private after the reception. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in her name to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, online at lpfch.org , or to your own favorite charity. Thank you.
